My paintings stem from impressions and memories of long drives, often made alone. They are my contribution to the American myth of the road as a place to experience freedom, adventure, and self-actualization, expanding and subverting a canon created largely by men. Using the road as an existential metaphor, I paint richly colored, lyrical landscapes that incorporate borrowed texts, roadside architecture, and references to music and the human body to represent complicated emotional and psychic states.
